The hardest part of the tooth is the enamel.
It is the outermost white or off white layer of teeth that covers the “crown” of the teeth and which is the ‘part of the tooth’ that's “visible outside of the gums”. The enamel is composed of hydroxyapatite which is actually a crystallised form of calcium phosphate.
The other components of the enamel of the teeth are minerals, organic substances, and water. It is even harder than bones. The thickness of enamel can be up to 2.5 mm.
