Wind erosion happens when wind gusts blow away unsecured soil.

Bank erosion happens when bodies of water sap away the topsoil near its shores.

Sheet erosion affects a whole area, when water or the wind act like a broom to clear out the topsoil.

Soil is very important as it is the medium of plant growth and also supports a variety of microorganisms. Soils, moreover, have many minerals and nutrients.

All types of soil erosion are:-

1. Water flows over clayey soils forming deep channels called gullies. This makes the land unfit for cultivation and the land is called bad land and ravines in the Chambal district.

2. Water flows as a sheet over sloping land and causes soil erosion. This type of erosion is called sheet erosion.

3. Wind blows soil off flat or sloping land. This is called wind erosion.

4. Soil erosion can also take place due to bad methods of agriculture. Ploughing up and down the slope develops channels for quick flow of water. This leads to soil erosion.
