In India, dowry system refers to the durable goods such as cash, property and movable assets that can be given to the bridegroom family by bride’s family.

This is a condition of the marriage.

Earlier, dowry was given in a nature of cash and today, people can find other goods such electronic appliances, property, furniture, bedding, crockery, utensils and other household items as gifts which are given by the bridegroom family by bride’s family in the name of dowry.
