The median of the following numbers 1, 2, 2, 8, 9, 14 is 5

Solution:

Given data set is:

1 , 2 , 2 , 8 , 9 , 14

Number of observations = 6 = even

Step 1:

Data should be arranged in order from least to greatest

1 , 2 , 2 , 8 , 9 , 14

Step 2:

There is an even number of items in the data set, then the median is found by taking the average of the two middlemost numbers

Two middlemost numbers = 2 , 8

Median = \frac{2+8}{2}\\\\Median = \frac{10}{2}\\\\Median = 5

Thus, median of the following numbers 1, 2, 2, 8, 9, 14 is 5
