Through this poem,the poet wants to convince that it is God who decides whether a life (of a being ) is to be taken or not,not the humans.
The mariner deliberately kills the albatross without any convincing reasons,thus committing a grave sin and is not allowed by God to die and suffer the dids of his sin by absorbing mental and physical pain each and every moment of his life,thus making him regret whatever he had done to the poor albatross.
