What is the purpose of anhydrous calcium chloride?

Answer:

It strongly absorbs water. Very useful for drying water out of a cell phone that gets wet accidentally. One of the most common uses of anhydrous calcium chloride is as a drying agent (dessicant). It absorbs water from the air (hygroscopic).
