South Africa is called the Rainbow nation because this means unity of multi-culturalism and the coming-together of people of many different races. This is such a positive way of expressing South Africa especially in a country where certain races were treated poorly and unfairly. The colours are simply said to symbolise the diversity of South Africa's usually unspecified cultural, ethnic or racial groups.

The Rainbow Nation was the name given to South Africa by Archbishop Desmond Tutu after its first democratic election in 1994 since apartheid ended. It's a metaphor for the coming together of all different peoples who live in South Africa β a nation with 11 official languages.
