The vet is a poem written by Guy Boas.

Rhyme scheme - Pattern of end words of sentences in the poem that rhyme together.

The rhyme scheme of the poem for the first 3 stanzas and the last is the same. It is ABAB that is also called the traditional rhyme scheme.

ABAB rhyme scheme - The stanzas are four lines with the first and third line-ending words having the same end sounds and the second and fourth line end words have same sounds.

Example from the first stanza

....................competent vet

.................. exceedingly wide,

................likely to get

.................... different inside.

Remaining stanzas:

The remaining stanzas have a different rhyming pattern. The stanzas are six lines with the first two lines have words ending with the same sounds, fourth and fifth line have the same sounds at the end and the third and sixth line end with the same sound.
