\textbf\underline\huge\underline{Hydrochloric Acid In The Stomach}

For the digestion of food, the body releases specific enzymes for the breakdown of complex substances into simpler particles. In the stomach, gastric juices are present. These gastric juices contain HCl, mucus, pepsin and renin.

 \textbf {Hydrochloric Acid} : It kills the bacteria present in the taken food. It also makes the medium acidic to activate the pepsin enzyme. Due to its acidic nature, it easily breaks down the complex food particles into simpler substances.

 \textbf {Mucus} : Now, a question comes in mind. If the stomach contains HCl, which is such a strong acid, then why does it not harm the stomach. The answer is, we have mucus. It is present in the inner lining of the stomach so that HCl doesn't come in contact with it.
