Skeletal muscle tissue consists of many specialised cells called myocytes. Each myocyte consists of many tubular threads called myofibrils. Each myofibril consists of repeat contractile units called sarcomeres

Tissues are composed of cells, and tissues are parts of the organs in each bodily system.

However, each type of tissue is responsible for specific functions that promote the health of the body.

The epithelium tissues provide protection from the outside world, usually through the skin, and can absorb, filter, and secrete. Epithelium tissues are found in the intestinal lining of our gut (absorption), in the kidneys (our filtering system), and in our glands (responsible for hormone secretion, among other things).

Our connective tissues cushion and protect organs, provide internal support for organs, and store nutrients.

We can expect to find connective tissues in tendons and ligaments which protect our muscles and attach muscles to bones.

Nervous tissues conduct neural pulses from organs to our brain and can be found in our nerves, spinal cord, and brain.

Muscle tissues facilitate body movement and help transport blood, food, and waste through our body's organs in addition to helping in mechanical digestion.

We see muscle tissue in the cardiac muscle, which is an involuntary muscle since the heart pumps constantly.

We also have muscles attached to our skeleton which we can control.
