A group role

A group role is a set of behaviors and responsibilities that a group member is expected to do as a result of his or her position within the group.

Task, social-emotional, procedural, and individual roles are the four categories we use to categories group roles. Task roles are those that aid or obstruct a group's ability to achieve its objectives. Social-emotional roles are concerned with forming relationships among members of a group. The group's procedural roles are focused with how it completes its task. When making judgments or starting policies, people in these positions are concerned in following orders, following usual protocol, and going through the proper channels. Individual roles are the last category, and they include any role "that detracts from communal aims and promotes personal aspirations."
