Glycerine prevents the slides from drying up.
Also, addition of glycerine aids placing of a coverslip preventing any air Bubbles from entering.
But it is also good to avoid it as it is very sticky.

Answer:

The use of glycerine in mounting of stained materials of slides because it is highly dense and has a high refractive index.

Explanation:

The biological cells require a mounting medium when kept in a glass slide to fix the glass slide; this mounting medium should make the specimen more visible and clear.

Glycerol is highly hydrophilic and hence it prevents the specimen from drying out. The glycerol in addition prevents the formation of air bubbles between the coverslip and the specimen.
