The utility of Find and Replace tool in a word processor is to first search for the text or phrase which we want to replace with another and then replace it with another text or phrase which is given by the user.

In word processors we usually open and work on text documents. The Find and replace feature is invoked usually by Ctrl F key. It enables us to search for a text string in the opened and currently selected (focussed) document.
Main use is to be able to jump (the cursor position) to the locations where the searched string is present. We can then replace (optionally) that string by another string. The replacement can be done selectively for each occurrence of the searched string. Or, all occurrences could be replaced in one go.
We could also format the replacement string before replacing it. So we need to replace only once. Same word occurring at multiple locations can be formatted in one action.
Usually we edit our document for adding some information or modifying it. In long documents, it is not easy to locate the topic we want to update. In such cases too the Find facility is useful.
