Hey mate...

Potassium....

Atomic number.... 19....

So it's configuration will be (2,8,8,1)

therefore.... valency.. is combining capacity of an element as well as number of electrons in its valence shell

I. e the number of valence electrons in valence shell is 1

thus it's valency is 1....
