What is the work done against gravity when a body is moving horizontally along a frictionless surface

This us because the body is moving in a straight path (displacement in in straight direction) and the force of gravity is acting downwards on the body (normal to the direction of displacement).

Hence the angle between the force and displacement (¢) = 90

The work done is given by the formula
W = F x S cos ¢
where W is the work done, F is the force, S is the displacement and ¢ is the angle between the force and displacement. We know ¢ = 90.

Hence, W = F x S cos 90
= F x S x 0 [since cos 90= 0]
hence, W = 0
