aMoving electrons strike the atoms and ions which lie along their path.Such collisions cause hindrance to the flow of electrons and oppose the current. This is called the resistance of the conductor.
Resistor are of two types:
1) Resistors in series: i) The same current flows through each Resistors.
ii) The effective resistance of the resistor is equal to the sum of their individual resistances.
2) Resistors in parallel:. i) The inverse of the effective resistance is equal to the sum of the inverse of individual resistances.
ii) The current flowing through an individual Resistors is proportional to the inverse of its resistances and the total current flowing through the circuit is the sum of the current flowing through individual Resistors.
...If you want to increase the power of current then you can use series combination.
If you want to reduce the amount of current then you can use the parallel combination.....I hope you like this answer.... thanks

Hi,
In simple words resistor helps to create an opposition to the flow of current, I.e is a device(or a two terminal electrical device) that helps to induce resistance in an electric circuit.
Hope this helps.
