Volant adaptation refers to the adaptations done by those animals which have an aerial mode of life or spend most of their time flying. They need to maintain their body in air and adapt for propulsion as well.

Adaptations :
-forelimbs modified into wings to help flying.
-body covered with feathers.
-light weight hollow bones filled with air ( pneumatic bone).
-strong flight muscles.

Adaptations maybe be for passive gliding or active true flight.
Passive gliding : no propulsion. Just jumping from height and gliding. Modified expanded skin and webbed feet.
Active true flying : involves both sustaining and propulsion. Most adaptations for this type.
