The population of France had increased but the income did not increased this led to scarcity of food and grains. Most workers were employed as labour in workshops whose wages were fixed.
So the gap between poor and the rich widened. This led to subsistence crises, something that occurred frequently in France during old regime. This rise the death of poors and needy peoples.
Because overgrowing of hunger peoples burst into shops and grab all hoarding materials.
