This question is related to the story "The village by the Sea" (chapter 8). Read the 3rd paragraph onwards for a short answer.

Hari came to Bombay from his village for earning money by work. He started to work in the Sri Krishna eating house. He borrowed some money from the watch shop owner and bought a post card from the post office. In the afternoon when the restaurant was free of customers, he sat on the steps of the Ding dong watch house. He wrote the post card to his mother that he got a job and he would bring money to her. But he didn't write his address on the card.

After finishing the post card he felt happy. Happy because he did the right thing by informing his family. He knew his sisters and mother loved him.

Hari also felt frightened because he had to stay in Bombay for a long time to save sufficient money. That meant he had to stay away from his family. He had to put up with the shabby and hot restaurant. He hadn't a good place to sleep.

Hari also felt optimistic and assured because of the old owner of Ding dong watch shop. He was a friend. Hari was awed by the hugeness of Bombay. He was astonished by the behavior of people he had met. He was hardworking and was content with his situation and himself.
