Answer:as the cartridges  were made of beef and to reload the gun they need to use their mouth so they felt disgusting to bite it

The rifles were greased with the fat of cows and pigs provoked them. It wounded the religious sentiments of the Hinduand Muslim soldiers. The soldiers who were unwilling to use the new cartridges were punished by the officers.the sepoys refused to do the army drill.
