Through the advocation of these principles, Ashoka wanted to solve problems like religious and sectarian conflict, social tension, animal sacrifices, and overall violence. He wanted better humanitarian conditions for the slaves in his kingdom also. He advocated non-violence or ahimsa, abstinence from killing or harming others, and religious tolerance.
