Let the number that should be subtracted from
 \frac{ - 3}{4}  \: be \: x
Hence,
 \frac{ - 3}{4}  - x =  \frac{5}{6}  \\  - x =  \frac{5}{6}  +  \frac{3}{4}  \\  - x =  \frac{(5 \times 4) + (3 \times 6)}{(6 \times 4)}  \\  - x =  \frac{20 + 18}{24}  \\  - x =  \frac{38}{24}  \\  - x =  \frac{19}{12}  \\ x =  -  \frac{19}{12}
Ans:
  -  \frac{19}{12}  \: should \: be \: subtracted \: from \:  -  \frac{3}{4}  \: to \: get \:  \frac{5}{6} .
