Let x should be subtracted

from -3/4 to get -5/8

-3/4 - x = -5/8

=> -x = -5/8 + 3/4

=> -x = ( -5 + 6 )/8

=> -x = 1/8

=> x = -1/8

Therefore ,

Required number = x = -1/8

let the number we have to find be 'x'

then,

                   -3/4   -   x  =   -5/8

                                        transposing 'x' to the RHS we get ,

             -3/4   +    5/8   =   x

                                        by LCM , we get ( LCM = 8 )

             -6/8    +    5/8  =   x

                      -1/8         = x

∴      -1/8   be subtracted from-3/4 to get -5/8
