UAA, UAG and UGA are 3 genetic codons which are known as stop codons or nonsense codons.

They are responsible for terminating the genetic translation of protein being directed by the messenger RNA.

They are used for polypeptide chain termination, resulting in release of fully formed polypeptide chain from the tRNA.

They cause the production of release factors, which result in dissociation of the two ribosomal sub parts.
