A black coating of silver sulphide is formed on silver articles when they get corroded.The silver articles react with Hydrogen Sulfide (H2S) present in air to form layer of black layer on it.

when silver articles come in contact with air for a long time...they react with air...and form a layer of Ag2S ( silver sulphide )
