There are many, many different types of viruses that can all affect your computer differently.
Many viruses are used to access your computer directly.
Others will “keylog” you, all financial data or passwords you enter are send to the person who sent you the virus.
Some will ransom your computer, refusing to give you access to your data unless you pay a hefty amount of money, if you don’t, all data is removed.
Some may just plainly break your computer, render it useless, or make it very difficult to remove.
There are also bitcoin mining viruses.
These are just a few examples of viruses. I recommend you use a good antivirus and never download anything suspicious!
