Tawa Matsya Sangh is a federation of fishworkers' cooperatives. It is an organisation fighting for the rights of displaced forest dwellers of the Satpura forest in Madhya Pradesh. In 1994, the government gave private contractors the rights to fish in the Tawa reservoir. The Sangh was formed after a struggle under the leadership of the Kisan Adivasi Sangathan, in response to which the State government accorded exclusive fishing rights to a cooperative of displaced fishermen. The federation of these cooperatives came to be known as the Tawa Matsya Sangh. The TMS fought for the rights of the displaced forest dwellers to continue fishing for their livelihood. TMS helped the fishworkers by ensuring that they got the right/required prices from the sale of fish, thus helping them earn money to live. The Tawa Matsya Sangh was founded to fight for the rights of the fishermen.
