After Death of Aurangzeb in 1707, Mughal empire started declining.

Some of Aurangzeb policies like Continuous War with Deccan, Religious Bigotism, Decentralized Army, Political Structure in the Center, Economic Crisis set in the decline process under Aurangzeb rule itself. However after death of Aurangzeb Weak Successors, Succession Dispute & Court Faction between Irani, Turani & Hindustani faction accelerated the process.

Bahadur Shah Zafar (1702–12) was too old to maintain the prestige of the empire and he liked to appease all the parties by profuse grants of titles and rewards. He was also known as “Shah-i-Bekhabar” (the headless king).

Jahandar Shah (1712–13) was a wildly extravagant fool. The Grand vajir Zulfikar Khan helped him to rise on the throne. He led a frivolous life, and his court was often enlivened by dancing and entertainment.

Farrukshiyar (1713–19) with the support of Syed brother defeated Jahandar Shah in the battle at Agra and became new Emperor. He lacked the ability, knowledge and character to rule independently.

Muhamad Shah (1719–48) was a wine and woman addict and he also spent more time in watching animal fights. During his period the Nizam-ul-mulk (Kilich Khan), a prominent leader of Turani faction & Burhan-ul-mulk (Saadat Khan), a prominent leader of Irani faction, intrigue with Nadir shah for personal interest, who invaded Mughal empire and on 22 March 1739, massacred Hindu population in and around Chandni Chowk, Delhi. The city was sacked for several days. Following this an enormous fine of 20 million rupees was levied on the people of Delhi. Muhammad Shah handed over the keys to the royal treasury, and lost the Peacock Tron, to Nadir Shah. The plunder seized from Delhi was so rich that Nadir stopped taxation in Persia for a period of three years following his return.

He was the last emperor to possess effective control over the empire. After the death of Qamaruddin Khan during the Sirhind conflict, Muhammad Shah becoming gravely sick and he died soon afterwards.

Ahmad shah(1748–54) was even on step ahead in his sensual pursuit than Muhamad Shah and established a separate place for concubines of emperor called harem. In administration he also took foolish decisions.
