Louis XIV was the king of France at the time of Revolution. When he inherited the throne the treasury was empty. The prolonged war has taken it's toll on the financial resources. The social burdens caused by war included the huge debt, made worse by the monarchy's military failures and ineptitude, and. the lack of social services for wars veterans. The wars added one billion livres to an already existing debt of more than two billions livres. Lenders used to give loan to the state at the rate of 10 percent interest. By 1789 the state was forced to spend nearly half it's yearly revenues paying the interest it owed. The French society was divided into three estates- Clergy, Noble and the Common people ( the third estate). As the taxes were only given by the third estate, the first and second estates were free from taxes.
So, the the economic condition of France before the French Revolution was very weak.
