*To recognize Tamil as the official language.
*For regional autonomy and equality of opportunity in securing education and jobs.
*To form an independent Tamil Eelam in northern and eastern parts of Sri Lanka.


But their demands were repeatedly denied by the Sinhalas and soon it turned into a civil war.
