\textbf{World War One }led to the destruction of the Russian Monarchist Government. a chaotic Civil war and the establishment of an experimental Ideological Society.

Russia entered WW1 to defend Serbia to which it had deep cultural ties. Its first enemy was the Austro-Hungarian Empire and its desire to control the Balkans. WW1 became a monster that no government could control that endlessly devoured men and resources.

In 1917 the Russian Government in the form of the Tsar had a crisis of confidence on a train to St. Petersberg. He abdicated, no one of the ruling class would replace him. Chaos ensued as new governments tried to establish a new order.

World War One was to have a devastating impact on Russia. When World War One started in August 1914, Russia responded by patriotically rallying around Nicholas II. Military disasters at the Masurian Lakes and Tannenburg greatly weakened the Russian Army in the initial phases of the war.
