Based in Raleigh, California, the Carolina Hurricanes are a professional Ice Hockey team. It was first formed as the New England Whalers in 1971 and affiliated to the World Hockey Association.

 

Later in 1979, when the World Hockey Association merged with the National Hockey league, it joined the National Hockey league (NHL), and the team was renamed the Hartford Whalers.

 

The team moved to North Carolina in 1997 and their home games are played at the PNC Arena in Raleigh, NC.
