Charles Darwin wrote a book known as "the origin of species " in which he explains that natural selection is a process by which the organisms which are better adaptive to the particular kind of environment are more likely to survive than the organisms which are less adaptive to that environment . It is a process by which the nature selects the characteristics of the organisms . If the behaviour of the organism is selected by the nature , i.e. the organism will survive or else will die , this process is known as natural selection. Actually , Charles Darwin was a British Naturalist who explained about the natural selection , sexual reproduction etc.. For example , consider a group of twelve red beetles living on the green bush . Colour variation arises during reproduction due to which there is one beetle that us green in colour . This green beetle can pass the colour on the progeny so that all it's progeny beetles are green in colour. Suppose , one day , a crow came and eats these beetles. The crow isnot able to see the green beetles sitting on the green bush , so the crow cannot eat the green beetles . Due to which , the crow keeps on eating only the red beetles due to which the population of green beetles increases and red beetles decreases. In this situation , the natural selection as explained by Charles Darwin has been exerted upon the crow by the nature so that the population of green beetles increases and the population of red beetles decreases.

Life on Earth really did start on land in a "warm little pond" and not in the oceans - just as Charles Darwin said more than 140 years ago.
