Subsistence crisis is an extreme situation where the basic means of livelyhood are endangered.
In France the population rose from 23 million in 1715 to 28 million in 1789, so the demand for bread, which was a staple diet for major population, rose rapidly.
But most of the people where working in factories and industries and their wage would be low as it would be fixed by their owners, so it was tough for them to buy bread.
Soon riots where seen in front of bakaries.
Drought and hail made the situation even worse.
This led to the subsistence crisis in france.
