What were the two main groups with the indian national congress? Why were they different? Name some important leaders from both the groups?

Two main groups were:-
1) Moderates
2) Radicals
Moderates wanted the British to train Indians in the art of self-government. The Moderates included leaders like Surendranath Banerjee, Pherozeshah Mehta and Gopal Krishna Gokhale.
Radicals demanded for swaraj or self-rule. Some radical leaders were Bal Gangadhar Tilak and Lala Lajpat Rai.

The two groups were Early Nationalists or Moderates and Assertive or Radical Nationalists.

Leaders of Moderates: Dadabhai Naoroji, Surendra Nah Banerjee, Gopal Krishna Gokhale.
Leaders of Assertive Nationalists: Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Bipin Chandra Pal, Lala Lajpat Rai.
