Addition of Grignard’s reagent to the carbonyl group of a compound forming an adduct followed by hydrolysis.

As a carbonyl group we can use both aldehyde and ketone...the product will always be an alcohol(primary, secondary or tertiary alcohol depending upon the type of aldehyde or alcohol)
