What will happen if mucus is not secreted by the gastric glands?

The alkaline mucous layer will protect epithelial cells of stomach all which opposite to the enzymes in the part of the lumen.

When mucus is not secreted by the gastric gland then the respective hydrochloric acid secreted by the glands which get properly digested and also corrode the wall of the stomach.
