When CO2 gas is passed through the lime water in excess, the milky solution turns colourless. This is because of the formation of Calcium bicarbonate which dissolves in the solution.

REACTION :-
CaCO3 + CO2 + H2O ----------> Ca(HCO3)2

Explanation:

When excess of CO2 is passed through this

solution, the milkiness disappears. This is due to the

formation of calcium bicarbonate which is colorless and

soluble in water.

(milkiness)CaCO3+H2O+(excess)CO2⟶(water soluble)

Ca(HCO3)2
