When a cell has to reproduce, then prior to that the cell starts a number of processes which ensures that all the daughter cells has equal or at least enough material to survive and produce its own.
One of these process is DNA Replication. In this process the DNA starts making a copy of itself. So when the cell divides , let's say, into two daughter cells then , each DNA copy goes into that individual cell. So the DNA is not lost and the information is passed on through the generation.
