When a person jumps out of the ship , he/she pushes the boat with feet and applies a force on it, according to newtons third law (action-reaction) the boat applies an equal force on the boy and he moves outward . Since the boat is on the water not on a solid surface ,so the force of the feet pushes it backwards.
