When a wave propagates from rarer to denser medium the frequency does not change.

  • When the wave moves from one medium to another, the one character does not shift which is the frequency as it completely depends on the source of the frequency and not the propagation medium.
  • The frequency remains constant because the mean is linear. The transmitted wave has the same frequency as the incident wave on a linear medium, and the amplitude of the outgoing wave is equal to the incident wave amplitude.

Frequency of the wave doesn't change if the wave is propagating from rarer to denser medium:

  • When a wave travels from one medium to another medium it tends to undergoes certain changes like change in path change in speed etc, that results in dispersion or change in angle of light inside the medium.
  • But the factor that does not show any changes given any medium of light is travelling from even the change in mediums regularly doesn't effect that factor of frequency.
  • Frequency remains same for any given medium.
