When a wire of copper is put into a solution of silver nitrate, the reaction involved and the kind of reaction taking place is :-


Cu + Ag(NO3)2 ----> Cu(NO3)2 + Ag , displacement reaction.
The reaction is not possible.
Cu + Hg(NO3)2 ----> Cu(NO2)3 + Hg, displacement reaction.
Cu + Hg(NO3)2 ----> Cu(NO3)2 + Hg, double displacement reaction.

Answer:

Copper is more reactive than silver. Hence when copper wire is dipped in silver nitrate solution it displaces silver from silver nitrate (AgNO3 ) solution forming copper nitrate which is bluish green in color. This is a displacement reaction.
