when an object is moving perpendicular to the direction of force, work done is zero. Why?

We know that work done is given by the relation:

W = FS cos α where α is the angle between force and displacement

Here α = 90

so the equation becomes:

W = FS cos 90

But cos 90 = 0

So, W = 0
