When and why was the Indian forest service set up

The Indian forest service was setup in 1864 and then formulated the Indian Forest act in 1865.
The system taught here was scientific forestry for planting of Oak trees.

To Save the forests : The British were Worried That the use of forests by local people and the reckless felling of tree by traders would destroy forests.

To Management of Forests : realised that a proper system had to be introduced to manage the forests and people had to be trained in the science of conservation.
