When Hydrogen gas is passed over the heated copper oxide, both steam and copper are formed.

The balanced chemical equation with the physical state for this reaction is given below.

Cu O (s) + H2 (g) ===> heat ==> Cu (s) + H2O (g).

It is the oxidation redoc reaction of the reduction reaction. I

n this process, Hydrogen is oxidized and Cu is reduced.
