The Indian constitution speaks for the following three reasons for emergencies -
1.Emergency due to war, armed international conflict, external aggravation or rebellion. This type is commonly known as National Emergency. [Article 352 ]
2. Emergency due to the failure of constitutional rule in the federation. Also known as President’s Rule. Other names for this type of emergency include - State emergency and Constitutional emergency. [Article 356]
3. Emergency due to threat to the financial structure of the country. As the definition suggests, this form of emergency is known as Financial emergency. [Article 360]
