The salt on heating produce brown fumes. This is bcoz the salt contains nitrate ion. The salt can be any nitrate but if the residue left after heating is yellow in colour it definitely implies that the salt is lead nitrate the brown fumes due to brown gas nitrogen di oxide (NO2) .
