This is because of the difference in the speed of light and sound. Light travels faster (3×10^8m/sec) than the sound (340m/sec). Therefore we are able to see the crack of the bat faster than the sound of the hit because as light travels faster than sound, light reaches our eyes faster than the sound of the hit reaching our ears. That's the reason why sound of the hit is heard after the crack of the bat when observe from a considerable distance.
