The history of the Internet in India started with launch of services by VSNL on 15 August 1995.

The history of internet in India began with the launch of the Educational Research Network (ERNET) in 1986.
The first public available internet service in India was launched by the state-owned Videsh Sancher Nigam Limited (VSNL) in 14 August 1995.
