Due to an increase in hydrostatic pressure, the deeper you go into water, the greater the force per unit area is exerted. For every 33 feet (10.06 meters) you go down, the pressure increases on you externally by 14.5 psi. This is an increase of water pressure acting on you by 4.34 lb/in² for every 10 ft of descent.
